'Orace Baldmony was a rat of Deptford who served as Jupiter's lieutenant in the 18th century. Later he gave up his evil ways and became a follower of the Green Mouse, which ultimately cost him his life.

Background[]

In 1789 when 'Orace was about to peel a mouse he had captured, the mouse asked the Green to forgive him. The rat was moved by this and let the mouse go free.

Soon after, he went through the Grille where he met the mice who lived in the empty house in Deptford. He became friends with them and they told him more about the Green. The other rats finally found him, however, and killed both he and his new mouse friends.

'Orace is despised among ratfolk, who generally will spit at the mere mention of his name. Mice honour his memory with the holiday known as 'Orace Day which is on 30 November.

Role in Fleabee's Fortune[]

His ghost appeared to the rat girl Fleabee in a dream, urging her to leave the sewers and the ways of the rats as she was not at all like them.
