A hedgehog of Fennywolde came across Madame Akkikuyu mixing ingredients to make it rain. He was frightened by what was going on, and when Akkikuyu noticed him he promised not to tell anyone about what he saw. Nicodemus (otherwise known as the spirit of Jupiter) ordered Akkikuyu to kill the intruder and she immediately complied, believing the hedgehog's corpse was needed for her spell. However, Nicodemus then informed her that that was not the case and she'd murdered the creature for nothing. Akkikuyu felt horrible about what she'd done, only for Nicodemus to remark that killing gets easier the more one does it.

Trivia[]

  • The hedgehog only appears in the updated version of The Crystal Prison released by Pushkin Children's Books in 2024. He was created presumably to flesh out the rain spell scene, and to emphasise Nicodemus's sadism and control over Akkikuyu as well as contribute to her feelings of anguish and guilt.
